چکیده

The only known species regarded as a representative of the family Trichinellidae Ward, 1907, is Trichinella spiralis (Owen, 1835), Railliet, 1895. The differences found in the shape and dimensions of capsules, as well as in the reaction accompanying the muscle phase of trichinellosis, are related to the host rather than to the parasite itself ; this by no means excludes the possible existence of various strains and races, characterized by varying degrees of infectivity and pathogenicity. This subject has been mentioned and discussed by several authors (McCoy, 1931; 1935 ; 1936 ; Bachman and Oliver-Gonzalez, 1934 ; Oliver-Gonzalez, 1941). It has also been claimed that the infectivity of a strain is affected by subsequent passages through the same host species, or transmission from one host species to another. In some cases, however, the reason for the differences is to be sought for in the different methods used by individual investigators, as it often accounts for the conflicting results, as for instance in the experiments of Trawinski (1935) and McCoy (1931 ; 1939).

Amelioration of Myogenin, Bcl-2 expression and DNA damages in myocytes of Trichinella spiralis-infected mice after immunization with gamma radiation-attenuated larvae

Background: In trichinosis, the presence of muscle larvae inside skeletal striated muscle causes loss of identity and function of myotube through the releasing of myogenin and myosin. Considering the dominant role of vaccination, research on gamma radiation-attenuated vaccine has very promising value. The goal of this study was to determine the efficacy of vaccination with radiation-attenuated ...

Freezing Resistance of a Trichinella spiralis nativa Isolate from a Gray Wolf, Canis lupus, in Montana, with Observations on Genetic and Biological Characteristics of the Biotype

A Trichinella spiralis isolate obtained from a gray wolf (Canis lupus) in northwestern Montana in 1987 was evaluated for infectivity and resistance to freezing and its DNA restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP's) compared to that from other sylvatic and domestic isolates. Infectivity indices in albino mice were low (<2.6) and correlated well with mouse infectivity data from other sylv...

Infectivity of Trichinella Spiralis Larvae

Time of survival and infectivity of Trichinella spiralis larvae in pig muscle tissue, buried at various depths in the ground were assessed. In the pork pieces the number of infective larvae was 250 ML/g. Meat originated from pig halves was divided in 39 equal pieces, 0.7 kg each, disposed in three groups of 1 3, and buried in depths of 30, 50, and 100 centimeters respectively. The pork was dug ...

Infectivity, persistence and serological response of nine Trichinella genotypes in rats.

Domestic and sylvatic Trichinella genotypes were evaluated for infectivity, muscle larvae persistence, and host antibody responses in rats. Groups of rats were inoculated with T. spiralis, T. nativa, T. britovi, three genotypes of T. pseudospiralis (from USSR, USA, and Australia), T. murrelli, Trichinella T6, and T. nelsoni, respectively. The muscle larvae intensity (larvae per gram), total lar...
